SP9326: 10/07/12 - Dotted Rustic !

Tmin: 11.0 Celsius with a fairly breezy SW wind - at least it didn't rain for a change.

Dotted Rustic was new* for the garden and follows hot on the heels of one trapped by the recorders the day before (which was the first VC30 record since 2006). It's an interesting moth which was previously found throughout the county during the 1980's, but whose status is now classified as an extremely rare resident, with an extremely local distribution. It is known to aestivate, but the larva has not been found in the wild and thus the (wild) food plant is unknown. Some believe it is a partial immigrant which boost local populations.
Barred Straw was also new.

1758* Barred Straw
2105* Dotted Rustic

    1. Thanks Ben, it's the second one in VC30 (since 2006) after the recorders had one the night before :-)
