SP9326: 03/07/11 - Thoroughly good

Optimal conditions resulted in a good haul with ten additions* to the garden list.

The best macro, I suppose, was Blue-bordered Carpet (an uncommon resident with a local distribution). The Brown-tail is described as uncommon resident/immigrant with a local distribution. The other new macros are probably as a result of using better equipment this year ('Ratface special' !) as the're not uncommon.

There were a couple of interesting micros - Phlyctaenia perlucidalis which UKmoths states is a scarce specie having first been noted in Huntingdonshire in 1957. The Beds Moth Group website indicates sixty-one records for Bedfordshire. It was noted at MVCP in 2009, and Maulden Wood (two) in 2010.

One of the 'bird dropping' tortix Hedya salicella seems to be another scarce micro with thirty-one in the database. At least one has been caught so far this year at Kempston (MJP).

Hard to ignore was the monster caddis Phryganea grandis that was crawling around the trap !
