TL0024: 29/05/11 - Obscure Wainscot

Obscure Wainscot was caught here in 2010, so it was nice to get one in the Heath trap. It's uncanny how the moth settled next to an illustration of itself !

There's quite a bit of Spindle (Euonymus europaeus) around and every year the larvae of Spindle Ermine can be seen descending on threads from their silken webs.

Both Pebble Hook-tip and Common Swift were new for the garden - unfortunately the former flew off before a camera could be sought. A Clouded Brindle was a nice surprise with one previous record in June 2010.

The weather was dry, but rather chilly, with a low of 11 Celsius.

I was privileged to join the county recorders, Mr A & Mrs M Banthorpe, yesterday evening at Maulden Wood. Mr David Manning - the micro-moth recorder - also attended, along with a another couple.   The total was 90 species in three traps.
