SP9326: 16/08/15 - New: Ypsolopha vittella

Tmin: 11.7°C; W: light airs; P: 0 mm;

Lifting out an egg tray exposed a possible small caddis, but there was something not quite right as it flew moth-like to a nearby wheelie-bin. Closer inspection revealed a new garden addition - Ypsolopha vittella. Markings appear quite variable and the food plants include Elm and Beech.

Catoptria falsella is scarce at this site, this being only the second record.

SP9326: 14/08/11 - Two new additions

The temperature dropped rapidly to 9.8 Celsius, the wind rose, and the moon was three-quarters. Despite all this it was a fair turnout.

The pyralid Orthopygia glaucinalis and a Tawny-barred Angle were new* to the garden. A second appearance of Gelechia senticetella.

Frustratingly, trapping was curtailed after three hours before rain stopped play. However, on the bright side, five new garden moths dropped by.

Gelechia senticetella (Staus: Nb - nationally scarce) was first discovered in the UK in 1988, Bedfordshire in 1997, and now in my garden ! There are twenty-six records in the database. There are thirty-nine previous records of Aethes rubigana.
