SP9326: 22/08/15 - New: Scorched Carpet

Tmin: 16.5°C; W: ESE 1-9 mph; P: 0 mm

Very warm and muggy, quite breezy at times.

Scorched Carpet was new for the garden, having previously caught this specie near the chalk where spindle (the larval food-plant) is plentiful.

SP9326: 21/08/15 - New: Cydia fagiglandana

Tmin: 14.0°C; W: SSW 0-6 mph; P: 0 mm;

Another warm and muggy night.

Cydia fagiglandana was a new garden moth which can be confused with Cydia splendana. The latter tend to present with little variation in our garden, however, playing safe, I checked with DVM (VC30 micro recorder) who agreed with my speculation. It's nationally common, but only 26 records (2014) in the VC30 database. The larval food-plants include beech, oak and chestnut.

Stats !

1st garden record of Large Beech Piercer Cydia fagiglandana.

Highest garden count of Common Grass-veneer Agriphila tristella (n=33).
